Luke Skywalker grew up on a moisture farm on Tatooine, raised by Beru and
Owen Lars whom heLuke Skywalker thought to be his aunt and uncle. At the age of eighteen, he yearns to leave the isolated desert planet behind and live the adventurous life of a space pilot. Following the arrival of the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO, Luke gets to meet Obi-Wan Kenobi and embarks on a fateful journey which will eventually reveal his true ancestry.
Luke experiences his first flight in the cockpit of an X-Wing during the attack on the first Imperial Death Star. In the years that follow, Luke fights many battles in X-Wings and other starfighters, achieves victories for the Rebel Alliance and becomes a resourceful leader. He also forms a close friendship with Princess Leia Organa, the captain of the Millennium Falcon Han Solo, and Chewbacca the Wookiee.
Eventually Luke's Force abilities are trained by Jedi Master Yoda, on the planet Dagobah. Fear for the fate of his friends prompts Luke to abandon his training and face Darth Vader on Bespin, leading to the loss of Luke's right hand - and a revelation about his father. Luke has a chance to show what he has learned during the rescue of Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt. Although on his own, Luke tries to fulfill his destiny and become a Jedi. He returns to Dagobah where he learns from Yoda that his training is complete - except for one thing: he must face Darth Vader again. During the battle of Endor, Luke fights Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine. He almost dies, but succeeds in turning Vader back to the light. Vader sacrifices himself for him and saves Luke's life.
In the following years, Luke helps to found the New Republic, as well as the New Jedi Order and works to keep peace throughout the galaxy. Though he received little training, Luke became an exceptionally skilled Jedi in combat, making him one of the most powerful Jedi to ever live.
