:: the title
"Deus Lo Volt" means "God wills it!" and was kind of a war cry of the Crusaders. The Classical Latin is "Deus vult", not "Deus volt", or "Deus Lo Volt", from the irregular Latin verb volo, velle, volui. "Deus Lo Volt" is a corruption of this. In 'The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Chapter LVIII: The First Crusade', Edward Gibbon explains this corruption: Deus vult, Deus vult! was the pure acclamation of the clergy who understood Latin.... By the illiterate laity, who spoke the Provincial or Limousin idiom, it was corrupted to Deus lo volt, or Diex el volt.
For this fanlisting, I chose the phrase that belonged to the common people, rather than just the clergy.

:: why this fanlisting ?
I have been interested in the history of the Crusades for a long time, especially in the Albigensian Crusades and the elimination of the Cathars. Mainly, I think it's absurd what people do and then justify it with religious belief while actually the reasons are very worldly.

:: the main picture
the main picture used in the layout of this fanlisting is a miniature from the 13th century, showing a Christian knight killing a Turk.
