// Brian's bracelet //
written by Mitzie. Thank you.

The cowry shell bracelet has been a very significant part of Brian Kinney, especially in the early episodes of the early seasons. Brian is never seen on screen without his cowry shell bracelet - whether he's at work in fancy suits, at Babylon in his clubbing clothes, or when he's fucking guys - the bracelet is and integral part of a Brian Kinney.

But it's not only that fact that makes it special. What makes the bracelet really special is the symbolic role it plays in some episodes that contributes to the whole storyline.
These episodes are notably episodes 101, 219, and 304.

In episode 101 the bracelet was clearly shown during a scene in the hospital rooftop when Brian was standing on the rooftop's ledge, glorifying youth & beauty, and asking Michael to join him standing on the ledge. He gives out his hand, which Michael takes in a strong grip, symbolizing the trust and the close grip these two best friends have in each other, even if they were standing in the ledge of a high building. The bracelet here being the one thing that differs Brian from the others.

Another prominent occurence with the shell bracelet was in episode 219. As Ted was having problems with arousal, Brian helps him to realize his sexual fantasy - being Brian Kinney. Not only did Brian sends two hunky boys, gives his E, and lends his bedroom for Ted, he also lends his shell bracelet as something that makes a Brian Kinney.

Last but not least, the shell bracelet also made an important contribution in episode 304, where the cowry bracelet was stolen by John, Brian's nephew. After confronting John and taking back the shell bracelet from him, Justin returns to the Loft to give it back to Brian, and tied it back in Brian's wrist. After doing that, Justin returns to Ethan as Brian walks back in to his big, empty loft, with only the bracelet as what remains of Justin in his life.
